Well, between my new Blogger account, and trying to pull the RSS over to Facebook (to? from? near?), I'm trying to figure out how to post photos inside the blogs. I see over here on Blogger that there's a button for photos. Shall I click it and see what happens? Yes, of course I shall. If it doesn't post in the RSS feed, then I'll have to (after banging my head against the wall) go back and upload them to my Flickr account and link to them from here.
Wow. That's a whole lot of corporate social media brand-names in one sentence! Let me throw some more in just for fun: Google! Delphi! Prodigy! Compuserve!
What you should be seeing is a picture of the Texas plates we ordered on our trip to Rochester yesterday. Picked up a cute little Fender Mustang bass at the dusty, disorganized and awesome House of Guitars, and worked up quite an appetite which was quickly vanquished by the Texas Hots Plate at Tacis Irondequoit Hots across the street. Although it didn't seem to live up to my long-ago memories of Nick Tahou's Garbage Plate, it wasn't 1am, I wasn't drunk, and I wasn't 23. Still it was probably not that different. I'm sure purists will flame, but welcome to Web 2.0. The plate consisted of two very good hot dogs (local Zweigles), split and griddled to perfection, home fries (the deep-fried chunky kind, not my favourite style) and macaroni salad, covered in mustard, onions and what they call hot sauce - a ground beef deal that seems not too far off from Cincinnati chili, another of my favourite food blogging topics.
In short, I should have not gone with the mac salad - it didn't do much for the plate, and just added a lump of something cold. I guess it might be the standard choice, because it's what the dude behind the counter offered me, as in "home fries and macaroni?" Like the locals? Like, if you don't want to seem like a martian? What was I thinking in not ordering the baked beans?
We each ate our hot dogs and the sauce and picked at the other bits a little before heading back home and rolling around clutching our bellies. Who's got bets on me hitting 220 again before this year is over?
I want you to be healthy and happy but I like you with a little meat on ya :)
ReplyDeleteFood porn! I love it.
ReplyDeleteCrazy society and their crazy technology...
ReplyDeleteThat shit looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteJust gotta say that plate of food doesn't look appealing to me at all.
ReplyDeleteI live in Cincinnati.I cannot stand their chili. Then again I am Vegetarian.Steven I love when you made comments about our chili. It's all good!
ReplyDeleteTums, anyone?
ReplyDeleteTwitter, Facebook, Google, Blogger....etc. They're all just fads. We'll all be back to hitting keys on typewriters and reading the newspaper (as in actual newspaper) before you know it =)
ReplyDeleteNow excuse me as I post an update about this post...
Nothing beats a garbage plate... although they are the best in the wee hours of the morning after a night out! HOG is a classic too! I grew up near there and walked there many times after school. Even camped out for Springsteen tickets way back! Oh and so now you were only about 5 miles from my current home... getting closer! :D
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to visit Rochester, and the HOG. I have never had a plate other than Nick's (or as the Lyell location is now called, Steve T's - the late Nick's now late nephew).
ReplyDeleteI lost 65 pounds almost two years ago, and I still enjoy a plate from time to time. :D It's OK! In fact, I just ate my weight in ribs, chicken and mashed potatoes last night at Famous Dave's after getting pre-qualified for a mortgage (*highfive*). It was more of a TGI Friday's version of Dinosaur, but it was still ribalicious. :)
Is it wrong that just you mentioning Cincinnati chili makes me excited...like you're mentioning me, personally?
ReplyDeleteWow. I hope this tasted better than it looks. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd the picture showed just fine in the reader.
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThe RSS feed issue in Facebook can be tricky, but I think it might be different for band/company pages than individual ones to get it set up. I always just use the posted items tool and manually send my blog posts to my Facebook page. But that kind of sucks.
As for your pictures here on blogger, I would suggest putting a paragraph tag (or a div style=clear:both, if blogger allows div tags) before your first word so you don't get that skinny column of text butted up against the picture like you've got above. Or make the picture either bigger or smaller to force the text to flow how you want it.
And it's not bad form to self-link on Twitter as long as that's not all you do. So far you're tweeting things yourself and saying more than "I'm playing in X city tonight," so you're doing better than half the celebrities on there already.
And that's my unsolicited advice for the day, I suppose. Let me know if you're in the market for any more. :)
Cheers!
Ooooh, the siren song of carbohydrates. :) If you are into more exotic chilis, I can offer up a really phenomenal recipe for Bacon Venison chili that's to die for. Lemme know.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, what were you thinking, not ordering the baked beans? There were hot dogs!
ReplyDeletedude. that looks awesome. we have nothing that yummy looking here in Boston.
ReplyDeleteA plate and the HOG...doesn't get more Rochester than that!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh..there is nothing like a Plate at the original Nick's On Main St. at 1:00am when you're 23 and drunk. They don't stay open late anymore...too many police calls. I would love watching the newbies stand at the very crowded counter and decide what to order. The guy behind the counter would get annoyed with them for holding up the line. $4.80, $4.80, $4.80...it's ALL $4.80.
The meat sauce isn't quite a chili sauce. It's really a meat hot sauce, it's a Rochester thing. And the secret ingredient is the extra ladle of hot sauce grease that they put on top. I just can't believe you got COLD mac salad...usually at the original it's warm mac salad and cold baked beans. Unbelieveable that the health department didn't crack down on that one!
If you eat pork, there's going to be a barbecue competition Memorial Day weekend in Rochester at Charlotte Beach (Beach...Rochester, HA!). I'll be there competing in the rib cook off. Tentative name for the team is "Pink N Nerdy"...but I'm not sure how many people will get it. How many Weird Al fans are out there anymore??
Joanne
You've always been cute in my books no matter what you weigh - eat what you like :) I do have to say I would never be able to stomach that plate though - good for you!
ReplyDeleteAs for twitter - it's definitely ok to link to your blog posts. I've been enjoying your tweets so far :)
Dude, that's just not right. I'm a little scared for you now, and I'm all about the BBQ, the fried and the carb....
ReplyDeleteEnough about the food--I want to hear more about the Mustang Bass!!! The only Fender bass I've tried was a classic Jazz, but my current (horribly neglected since I had my son) bass is a G&L 5 string fretless, which is the company Leo Fender founded after he left Fender. I love playing that bass!
ReplyDeleteI'm headed to Rochester at the end of the month for work. I'm on this ridiculous diet, so I will be no where near that place. But now I have baked beans on the brain, thanks.
ReplyDeleteYo...yo...yo...You were in ROC and didn't come to meet me!? I'm almost an "elder" on the Fam List. Hell! I've been going to HOG since before you were born!! Now...if I hear you've gone to Tone Benders and didn't walk down the promenade to meet me, you're in BIG trouble!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
"Aunt" Kay
Props on the Mustang bass, man. Speaking of which (kind of), whatever happened to that sexy Jazzmaster from the Maybe You Should Drive era? Maybe I'm just a Fender-besides-standard-tele/strat fanboy, but I'm thinking it deserves a comeback if you still have it.
ReplyDeleteDude you should really play Nashville again soon which it is called Music City baby... We have some awesome eats here and I totally think you could really rock on the new solo stuff here. Just a thought.Hope you saw my blog post on you departure from BNL. People seem to dig it.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I'm there in a heartbeat if you happen through Nashville. Have you played Nashville in the past couple of years? If so, I'm terribly distraught at the thought of missing it.
ReplyDeleteHaha, you are so funny! I am so glad you're gonna be back to blogging again! That had to be one helluva meal (I'm saying as my stomach is currently growling)!
ReplyDeleteWhat else can be said? I absolutely love you. Your voice melts me, you are one of the few people who are as verbose as I am and can appreciate a 'rye' wit. :) Perfection. Any man who photographs food porn is highly desirable in my book!
ReplyDeletePLEASE PUT THE WEIGHT BACK ON!!!!
ReplyDeleteis it wrong of me to covet that plate of food?!
ReplyDeleteI would have pegged you for a picky eater. But that does look good...
ReplyDeleteUgh. I don't know what I was thinking. The biggest question I had in mind was, how is Ed going to handle songs that Steve used to sing? For some reason I guess I assumed they'd skip them or something... It honestly didn't even occur to me that Jim might try and sing your songs! I like Jim Creegan, but to sing your parts is like blasphemy. Let's face it, you are the only one who's voice is really classically trained. Is Jim Creegan going to sing Break Your Heart and make the Lady's cry? I don't think so. I never thought I could be so critical of BNL, and I know it was only a soundcheck that was posted yesterday, but I am concerned. I am worried that they may do irrepairable damage to the songs that I have loved for many years. Please help us find closure Steve.
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeleteYou should send your delightful food photo to the very amusing blog "This is Why You're Fat." Have to say, I'm not sure your platter tops the Twinkie wiener sandwich though! (Hot dogs with Twinkies for buns, covered in Cheez Whiz.)

Holy crap on a plate!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to blog! Good luck with your endeavors. The husband and I have seen you with the Barenaked Ladies several times throughout our 12 year relationship.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories and here's to more for you. :)
I am sorry but that looks like something people extrude from their body NOT put into it. I am a nurse and have seen some pretty horrible things, but this!
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of your post.

Just found your blog and had to comment - I was born in Rochester and used to spend lots of time visiting my family in Dansville and around that area. Every time I'd go out there, I'd bring an empty suitcase and pack it full of 40 pounds of those hotdogs to bring back to California (where I am now). Love, love, LOVE the Zweigles! Now I can order them online and have them shipped to me, but it was more fun having my suitcase full of hotdogs inspected at the airport! Ah, memories!
ReplyDeleteSteve you always have a way of making me hungry!
